Media pickup rules

I'm happy when news sites, portals and other blogs write about my articles. These are the rules for doing it, so we're all on the same page.

Partial transfer

You can pick up up to 30% of an article's text without asking me first, as long as you follow the attribution rules below. This covers direct quotes, close paraphrases and translations into another language.

Your own reporting on an article, such as a short summary of what it's about or your commentary on it, doesn't count toward that limit. Retelling the article itself in different words does, so rewriting the whole thing is a complete transfer.

Complete transfer

Republishing a whole article, or more than 30% of its text, is not allowed without my written permission. The same goes for a full translation.

Written permission means a document signed by me, either in ink or with an e-signature.

The attribution rules still apply to articles republished with permission, unless the permission itself says otherwise.

Attribution

Whenever you pick up any part of an article, you need to:

For example:

Source: Ivan Vlahov, <a href="https://vlahov.xyz/blog/streets/">vlahov.xyz</a>

Or, for a publication in Croatian:

Izvor: Ivan Vlahov, <a href="https://vlahov.xyz/blog/hr/streets/">vlahov.xyz</a>

Questions?

If you'd like to republish a whole article, or you're not sure whether what you have in mind is covered by these rules, send me an email and we'll sort it out.
